TranscribeMusic

TranscribeMusic is an intuitive application for efficiently learning things like jazz solos or other pieces of music by ear or with intention of writing down the music.

Features:

• Playback mp3, oog, or wav audio files or even audio from a Youtube URL
• Change the volume, pitch, and speed of the audio being played
  
• Slowdown audio without changing pitch
  
• Create loops for repeating sections of audio
• Loops are sorted by time and easily accessible on the right side of the window
• Intuitive workflow and keyboard shortcuts; ideal for learning music by ear in a fast and efficient manner
• Save or Open the created loops and other settings via .transcription file
• Built using open source technology like the Godot game engine

Important For Mac:

You need to run in the Terminal:

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine path/to/TranscribeMusic.app

Since unsigned binaries on MacOS get marked as untrusted otherwise. Make sure to replace the path with the app location.

From The Creator:

As a professional saxophonist and educator, I could not find a suitable application that enabled me to efficiently work through transcribing songs and solos and utilize audio from YouTube without using multiple applications. Many of the current applications that I could find are not intuitive or can be very expensive. This led me to create the TranscribeMusic application which encompasses the best and most efficient workflow for working through jazz solos or other types of audio.

  • The MacOS and potentially the Linux build has a potential bug with YouTube downloads, which might make the audio to fail to load because it's not converting to an MP3 correctly. This might require you to install ffmpeg but will require confirmation: https://ffmpeg.org/
